JRCC is an independent agency under the Ministry of Defense of Cyprus with the Minister being responsible for its operational aspects. It is staffed by highly trained personnel coming from the Navy and Air Force branches of the National Guard of Cyprus. All logistic and technical support is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport, Communications & Works.

The primary mission of the JRCC Larnaca is to organize the Cyprus Republic Search and Rescue (SAR) system, command & control and coordinate SAR operations, in order to locate and rescue people in distress as a result of naval or aircraft accidents; operating within its Search and Rescue area of responsibility.

JRCC participates in the NESTOR project as an End User and is actively involved in the definition of user requirements & operational scenarios and in planning and execution of trials.
