NESTOR partner Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) representatives, Ms. Mirela Rosgova and Ms. Artemisia Nikolaidou, participated in the “Shaping responsible solutions for internal security” annual event held in Brussels, Belgium on 13th September 2022. The meeting was organised by the EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security in cooperation with the Community of European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS).

The EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security is a collaborative network of innovation labs that was established by the Council’s Standing Committee on Operational Cooperation on Internal Security (COSI) in February 2020. The EU Innovation Hub is a cross-sectorial EU platform and aims to ensure coordination and collaboration between all innovation actors of the wider field of the internal security. The Innovation Hub, being composed of various EU Agencies, works to provide the latest innovation updates and effective solutions to support the efforts of internal security actors in the EU and its Member States, including justice, border security, immigration, asylum, and law enforcement practitioners. Almost 80 representatives of EU institutions and agencies were joined by research and technology organisations, internal security practitioners from EU Member States, and academic experts in the security field. During this session the various speakers discussed the evolution of the tools which assist law enforcement agencies in their decision-making process such as Artificial Intelligence and Big Data technologies. KEMEA presented the project’s innovations in monitoring and surveillance. The attendees left the event with a clearer understanding of how to translate research projects into real operational impact.

We would like to thank our partner Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) for the participation and the presentation of the project.
